Cupcakes For Wedding And Engagement Parties
All of us want our weddings, engagements and other special days to be memorable, unique and different. Unfortunately, most of us cannot or do not want to exchange our rings and wows thousands of feet under water, in space or while paragliding at neck breaking speeds down to earth. Therefore, we turn to theme parties and different menus for our special occasions. The menu is one of the most important things that determine whether your wedding or engagement will be remembered by anybody apart from the two of you. Trust me, gluttons like me and many others of my ilk remember weddings like, “…and who was the one who served that scrumptious oriental chicken dish on their reception…”, and, “which ghastly wedding was it where the cake cream had turned sour? Remind me not to attend any other weddings of that family.”
Well, what I just said is a little bit of hyperbole, but the food that you serve at a reception and how you serve it goes a long way towards making people remember your wedding as being special. And seriously, if you scrimp and do not pay attention to your wedding reception, then most people rightly think that if you were really not bothered about your wedding, then why bother them after all?
However, this does not mean that a wedding reception has to be lavish and that you have to spend all your hard earned money on it after borrowing some. Some personalized attention and novel ideas are all that is required for making any wedding special. Call fewer guests and have lesser items on the menu, but try to make sure that whatever is there is created with love and presented with care. Think of new themes, new dishes and different types of cakes.
The bride’s dress and the wedding cake are two very important things that everyone generally notices and comments on. And while most people pay a lot of attention to both, most wedding cakes look like replicas of each other when you get down to basics.
For a different type of wedding cake, give the butter cream icing a miss for one. If you cannot really afford a designer wedding cake, then you can get your cake iced in the colors of the bride’s and the bridesmaids’ dresses. cupcakes have made a great comeback to the world of the hip and the stylish adult, what with every well known celebrity being seen gorging on their favorite cupcakes on different occasions or for no occasion at all. Wedding cupcakes arranged beautifully on cupcake trees not only look very stylish, they also look very different from regular wedding cakes. In fact, since the cupcake revival, many bakeries take orders for special wedding and engagement cupcakes.
You can even save a lot of money on your wedding cupcakes by getting them made at home. Since I am a great advocate of do-it-yourself, I would go for make my own wedding or engagement cupcakes even if money is not a problem. Even if you have never made cupcakes before, you can easily make cupcakes for your wedding or engagement by following cupcake recipes that you can find in recipe books or for free from online sources. In fact, you can make a family activity of making engagement cupcakes where everybody helps with baking, frosting and decoration. Just make sure that an expert is in charge and that everybody is given jobs in accordance with their skills. If all that your brother can do is clean up the mess the experts create, then so be it—just give it to him.
There is no rule that says that wedding cupcakes should be all white, all in one color, or all in one flavor. So experiment with colors and recipes before you finalize on your wedding or engagement cupcakes. You can get chocolate chip cupcake recipes, choc orange cupcake recipe and a chocolate mint cupcake recipe from the internet and decorate your cupcake tree with all three to give your guests both choice and variety. You can go for either complementary or contrasting cupcake recipes for your cupcake combinations.
Since cupcakes do not actually have much space for lettering, cutting and sharing, I would suggest that you keep a larger cake on the top of your cupcake tree for the cutting part of the function. This way, the bride and groom get to cut their wedding cake while the guests all get an individual cupcake of their own. If you want to, you can buy small bakery boxes and give away packed cupcakes to your guests as take away gifts. On the other hand, you can also serve them as desserts all by themselves if they are nicely frosted or with side servings of fruit or sauce.
Remember that presentation is extremely important and the difference between tackily served food and classily served food is just a little bit of patience and neatness. In order to ensure that your wedding cupcakes do not look like something out of a pre-schooler’s lunch box, pay special attention to frosting and presentation. The frosting does not have to complicated, just clean. If you are making your cupcakes at home, then using edible toppers is a great idea. Edible food cake toppers are available at most bakeries and at online stores and you can decorate your cupcakes easily using hearts or flower cup cake decorations on your wedding cupcakes. You can also use marzipan to decorate your cupcakes. Some people really work wonders with marzipan. Once again, I would suggest that you go online for cupcake decorating ideas. You will be able to find cupcake decorating ideas ranging from the basic to the complicated and will easily be able to find something that suits your skill levels.
